Approximately 25% of American adults experience food insecurity, which impacts productivity and overall health. Jay Bhatt, managing director of Deloitte Services and the Centre for Health Solutions and Health Equity Institute, emphasised that employers have a role to play in tackling this issue. Speaking at a conference, Bhatt highlighted the importance of viewing companies as health entities, where employee well-being directly affects team performance. He suggested employers should assess their benefit design, communicate and incentivise the benefits effectively, and examine disparities in benefit usage among employees. Additionally, cultural sensitivity and personalisation are vital when addressing food insecurity. Deloitte’s Health Equity in the Workforce initiative, in partnership with the American Heart Association and the Society for Human Resource Management Foundation, aims to support employers in improving health equity in the workplace.
