Medication mistakes are widespread for children with Leukaemia and Lymphoma, research revealed

According to research published in Cancer, medication mistakes are widespread in children with leukaemia or lymphoma, and these errors can cause substantial injury. The average number of drugs given to a kid was 12, and the vast majority (79%) of children experienced at least one medication mistake. The total mistake rate was 12.4 per 1000 patient days. The majority of mistakes occurred during at-home administration, with prescription errors accounting for 20% of all errors. Children who took 13 or more drugs were considerably more likely to make major medication mistakes than those who took fewer prescriptions. The researchers discovered that patients who had several carers were prone to misunderstandings and medication mistakes. Improved communication between the health care system, the patient, and carers is required to prevent drug mistakes at home.
