American Heart Association launches $7.8 Million Health Care by Food™ initiative

The American Heart Association (AHA), marking its centenary, allocated $7.8 million to 19 nationwide research projects as part of its Health Care by Food™ initiative. These projects aim to integrate healthy food into healthcare delivery effectively. Supported by The Rockefeller Foundation and partners like Kroger, Instacart, Kaiser Permanente, and the Walmart Foundation, the initiative addresses chronic health conditions, aiming to reduce healthcare costs and inequities. With food resource coaching, produce delivery programmes, and food prescription initiatives, the projects seek to treat, manage, and prevent diseases like cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Led by experts across various fields, the research emphasises rigorous evaluation and aims to increase enrollment and engagement in food is medicine interventions, ultimately improving health outcomes and ensuring equitable access to effective programmes.
