Australia’s updated digital health strategy 2023-2028

Australia has introduced its updated National Digital Health Strategy 2023–2028, reflecting a shift towards precision medicine and personalised healthcare. The strategy emphasises inclusivity, sustainability, and connectivity in the healthcare system, aiming for four key outcomes: digitally enabled services, person-centred care, inclusive access, and data-driven decision-making. It outlines four “change enablers” and corresponding outcomes, focusing on policy, digital solutions, workforce readiness, and consumer empowerment. Priority areas include enhancing digital literacy, expanding virtual care, integrating personal devices, and leveraging health data for research. The strategy aligns with the government’s commitment to digital health enhancement, driven by increased demand and recent events like the pandemic. The success of the strategy will be measured using the Quintuple Aim framework, reflecting health outcomes, sustainability, patient experience, provider wellbeing, and equity.
