MaineHealth received $350,000 from Hannaford supermarkets and the Hannaford Charitable Foundation for its Food as Medicine programme. This programme provides fresh and wholesome produce to the underprivileged individuals combating chronic diseases. This donation is one part of the total $1.5 million pledged by Hannaford to support health and wellness programmes in New England and New York. The retailer’s initiative is titled as “Eat Well, Be Well — A Path to Better Health.” This initiative is aimed at promoting food security with the thought of keeping in mind the long-term benefits of nutritious food. This initiative will help individuals facing food insecurity that have a history of chronic illnesses. The funding will be used to introduce Food as Medicine programme at Franklin Community Health Network.
