NIH launches phase 2 trials for Long COVID treatments, enrolment now open

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has initiated phase 2 clinical trials to evaluate potential treatments for long COVID, with enrolment now open. The trials will assess at least four treatments for long COVID symptoms, with seven more treatments expected in the coming months. The NIH’s Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Initiative aims to understand, treat, and prevent long COVID, which is characterised by persistent symptoms after a COVID-19 infection. The trials will focus on viral persistence, cognitive dysfunction, sleep disturbances, autonomic nervous system problems, exercise intolerance, and fatigue. The platform protocols will enable the evaluation of multiple treatments simultaneously to quickly identify effective remedies. The initiative seeks to provide relief to the millions of individuals suffering from COVID globally.
