WHO and G20 Launch Global Initiative on Digital Health to Accelerate Transformation

The World Health Organisation (WHO) and G20 India presidency introduced the Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH) during the G20 Summit’s Health Minister’s Meeting. GIDH, managed by WHO, is set to support the implementation of the Global Strategy on Digital Health 2020–2025, fostering global standards, best practises, and resources for rapid digital health system transformation. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, emphasised collaboration with G20 countries, development partners, and international organisations to enhance capacities and access to quality digital solutions. The initiative’s objectives include developing investment plans for digital health, enhancing resource transparency, facilitating knowledge exchange, promoting whole-of-government approaches, and aiding the Global Strategy on Digital Health 2020–2025’s implementation. Multiple stakeholders have committed substantial support to the launch of GIDH, recognising digital health’s role in achieving Universal Health Coverage and health-related Sustainable Development Goals.
