Pioneering collaboration: Saving lives through early Endometrial Cancer detection in Louisiana

A collaboration between a Pennington Biomedical physician-researcher and an LSU School of Medicine oncologist has led to a pioneering screening tool that’s already saving lives among women in southeast Louisiana. Endometrial cancer, particularly prevalent in younger and underserved populations, is on the rise, linked to obesity and excess oestrogen production. The screening tool, implemented in metabolic surgery clinics, aims to detect cancer early, potentially averting invasive treatments. Funded by the Baton Rouge Health-Tech Catalyst, the initiative underscores the importance of early detection and obesity treatment in combating cancer rates. Dr. Albaugh and Dr. Jernigan advocate for widespread screening, aiming to revolutionise cancer prevention strategies and improve women’s health outcomes.
