UK’s Our Future Health project reveals untreated high cholesterol and blood pressure issues in adults

The UK’s major medical-research project, Our Future Health, reveals startling findings suggesting most adults with high cholesterol aren’t receiving treatment, and a quarter have untreated high blood pressure. Analysing genes and lifestyle, the initiative, backed by the government and industry, aims to prevent diseases. With one million volunteers enrolled out of a targeted five million, the project uncovered shocking rates of undertreated health issues. Professor Sir John Bell, chair of Our Future Health, expressed concern over the significant untreated ill health in diverse age groups. Participants undergo health checks at mobile centres, providing blood samples and health measurements. The initiative aims to identify risks earlier and prevent diseases, focusing on diverse backgrounds to bridge health inequalities. Expected to surpass the UK Biobank’s impact, this initiative’s vast scale promises profound insights into disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
