WHO and the European Commission launch a landmark digital health partnership

The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the European Commission have announced a significant partnership to establish a global digital health system. WHO will adopt the European Union’s (EU) digital COVID-19 certification system with the aim of creating a global network that facilitates global mobility and protects people from health threats, including pandemics. This partnership marks the first step in the development of the WHO Global Digital Health Certification Network (GDHCN), which will provide a range of digital products to enhance healthcare worldwide. The collaboration is based on principles of equity, innovation, transparency, and data protection. By leveraging the EU’s successful digital certification network, WHO aims to deliver efficient and effective health services globally. The initiative aligns with the EU and WHO global strategies on digital health and strengthens the multilateral system for global health cooperation.
